what is otitis Externa?

Otitis Externa is oftentimes also called “swimmer’s ear”.

The condition is an outer ear infection, and the outer canal of your ear becomes inflamed and irritated.1,2

what causes otitis externa?

The ear is an area that is warm, dark and tends to become moist, which makes it susceptible to infection by fungi or bacteria. Ear wax (cerumen) coats the skin in the ear and protects the ear against infection, and the very thin skin from damage. Moisture, trauma and a lack of ear wax can lead to ear infections.3

  • Humidity, (high temperatures)
  • Sweating, (high temperatures)

  • Foreign objects, like cotton buds, earphones and hearing aids
