what causes otitis externa?
The ear is an area that is warm, dark and tends to become moist, which makes it susceptible to infection by fungi or bacteria. Ear wax (cerumen) coats the skin in the ear and protects the ear against infection, and the very thin skin from damage. Moisture, trauma and a lack of ear wax can lead to ear infections.3
